What are dental implants?
A dental implant is a titanium prosthetic that is a natural choice to replace missing teeth with a long-lasting solution. It replaces the root structure of the tooth while providing stability and support for the jawbone.
Will the procedure hurt?
Our patients say that there is minimal discomfort, if any at all, and no swelling. We can provide general anesthesia for patients who wish to be more comfortable.
How long will the procedure take?
In most cases, dental implants can be placed while a dental crown is created, all during the same procedure. However, sometimes the implants need several months to heal before placing the crown. It takes three months for the implant to fully integrate into the lower jaw and six months for the upper jaw. Everyone heals differently, which is why Dr. Alijanian and our team will monitor your progress.
Will I have to be without my teeth?
No, you will not need to go without a tooth prosthetic. If you do not receive a dental crown immediately, then a temporary prosthetic will be made for you. We may make minor adjustments for your comfort during the healing period.
Will I need to see my dentist after I have received implants?
You will need to visit your dentist regularly for hygiene purposes to maintain your oral health.
How long will implants last?
As long as you take care of them, they will feel and act like normal teeth and can last for a lifetime.
Am I too old for implants?
No. Patients over 90 years old have replaced their prosthetics with implant-supported restorations. Many are enjoying the benefits of permanent teeth, such as chewing and speaking.
Can I get by with my dentures?
Many believe they are stuck with options that they cannot change. But from what our patients are saying, implant-supported prosthetics are paving a new quality of life for many. They even stimulate your jawbone and keep it healthy, whereas your jawbone will recede over time without implants to reinforce it. What if I wait to get dental implants?
Tooth loss eventually leads to bone deterioration in your jaw. If you wait, you may require more complicated treatments later on. If you have removeable prosthetics like dentures, you will need to continually readjust or even replace them, though that will not improve your ability to chew, and you may still experience pain and discomfort. Plus, the expenses of continual treatment will only grow as your jaw deteriorates.
How much do implant cost?
The cost varies depending on how many you receive, the type of prosthetic used, and the condition of your jawbone and teeth. Most often it is not much more than the cost of permanent bridgework. Our office does have a “Pay It Once” policy.
Why are implants expensive?
The cost of dental implants will vary. The procedure requires three specialists, a surgeon to place the implants into your jaw, a restorative dentist to design the dental crown and a lab to make the crowns according to the dentist’s instructions. Each implant is customized specifically to you, and much time and effort goes into the procedure for your individual case.
Will my insurance cover dental implants?
More insurance companies are providing coverage for dental implants since they have become the standard procedure for replacing missing teeth. Our team will be happy to help you process your claim submissions.
